MESSAGE FROM THE PRODUCERS, KEVIN & ZAK

We both grew up in San Francisco. This city means a lot to us and will always be our home. We produced this film to chronicle the near-century-long effort to end death at the most deadly stretch of highway in the world: The Golden Gate Bridge.

Erecting the net on the Golden Gate Bridge was a painful, harrowing journey. For countless families who have lost and will lose loved ones to suicide, this is just the beginning. We produced this film as a catalyst to reduce access to lethal means globally. We dedicate this film to both our fathers.

WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF OUR PARTNERS AND SUPPORTERS WHO ARE HELPING US MAKE THIS FILM POSSIBLE.

THE NET TESTIMONIALS

  • "This film raises awareness about the tough reality of suicides on the Golden Gate Bridge. Amidst the alarming rise in suicide rates, the documentary highlights the efforts to save lives, showcasing the beauty of human compassion and action, as well as the pain that ripples from losing loved ones. The installation of the safety net, which has resulted in a near zero suicide count, stands as a remarkable testament to what can be achieved when people come together to make a difference.”

    - Fausto/InfluencerAdvocate

  • “As a Clinical Counselor/Suicide Survivor, this film is beautiful and heart warming to see people come together to share truth and insight on the harsh reality of suicide. In a world where suicide is at its highest, it is much needed to educate people on what’s going on and how important it is for everyone to come together and fight to protect those who struggle. Seeing people who fought for 23 years without stopping to get a net built to help prevent suicides, shows the level of compassion and strength we have for our people.”

    - YouTube Comment

  • “Kevin Hines & Zak Williams present a heart, wrenching, magnificent film that needs to be heard around the world. We need more films like this that strive to create change by harnessing a disastrous event into an inspiring triumph to save lives”

    - Dana Kippel Writer/Filmmaker

  • “The Net" is a film that serves as a call to action and a beacon of hope both for those struggling with mental illness and their loved ones. It underscores the significant role community, support, and unwavering persistence play in the mission to save lives. This documentary raises awareness about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention while emphasizing the collective human effort and compassion that went into this life-saving initiative.”

    - Karina Kadakia

  • “The Net is a must-see film that will move you to better understand the topic of suicide. Many lives have been impacted due to loss of loved ones at the bridge. This film depicts the journey to the completion of the net and those involved in making it the reality it is today.”

    - Paris Scobie Advocate/Author

  • "The Net" Is a powerful film that tackles a critical issue with a solution long overdue. Driven by Kevin's & Zak’s passion and advocacy, this film beautifully portrays a story of tragedy and hope that spans 90 years. The Net stands as a centerpiece for the ongoing efforts and conversations to prevent loss and continue dedication to mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

    - Jesse Heffernan Mental Health Advocate

  • "One death by suicide is one death too many! The unfathomable pain, the loss, the incomprehensible ... How do we make sense of any of it? Can our interventions, advocacy and personal investments make a difference? The Net is a richly compelling, compassionate and truth-filled documentary. It is a reminder of what’s possible when passionate determination brings like-minded individuals together (one bridge at a time) to change the world. Sadly, there are too many stories about losing those whom we have known and loved to death by suicide. As storytellers, motivational speakers & survivors, Kevin Hines and Zak Williams have a powerful and profound message that we all need to hear - and, likewise, all need to share. Journey with the authors and filmmakers as The Net peels back the multifarious layers surrounding construction of the net at the Golden Gate Bridge and chronicles nine decades of tenacious and unrelenting advocacy."

    - Bob Vero Regional CEO Centerstone RT

  • "Unfortunately, suicidal thoughts are not foreign to me. In fact, I spent much of the early part of my contemplating how to end my life. I survived that stage of my life in part because I did not have access to an easily accessible way to make an attempt on my life. Now, on the other side of those dark times, I’m grateful for that. It scares me to think that there’s a landmark in our society that is such an easily accessible place to make an attempt on one’s own life. This film is important it documents the process of making the Golden Gaye Bridge safer, and this saves lives. That’s what makes this film so important."

    - Elliott Connie, Psychotherapist

  • “What an important story - that needs to be told and re-told to save lives. (Of maybe even someone you know.)”

    - Frank Kilpatrick-Producer, Stay Alive (Award-winning Mental Health Documentary film)

  • "Suicide is a national tragedy with some 50,000 deaths last year. San Francicsco’s Golden Gate Bridge is infamously known as the #1 suicide site in the world counts nearly 2000 -4,000 deaths since its completion in 1937. The Net shines a spotlight on this problem educating us but more importantly showing us what concerned people can achieve. The film’smain character, the advocacy, and construction of the suicde prevention nets are proof not only that these tragedies can be prevented but that the human potential is boundless."

    - Mel Blaustein Md. Psychiatrist-advocate

  • “The Net" is a poignant and powerful documentary that delves deep into the tragic and often misunderstood world of those who have been drawn to the Golden Gate Bridge with intentions of ending their lives. The film stands as a testament to the lives lost and the relentless determination of those left behind to prevent further tragedies."

    - Rebecca Ford Cyber Security, Disney

  • "From the outset, "The Net" captures viewers with its breathtaking cinematography, offering both haunting and beautiful views of the iconic bridge. These visuals serve as a stark contrast to the film’s heavy subject matter, reminding us of the allure and danger intertwined with this architectural marvel."

    - YouTube User

  • "The storytelling by Kevin Hines and Zak Williams is where the film truly shines. Hines, a survivor of a suicide attempt from the bridge, brings an unparalleled authenticity and emotional depth to the narrative. His personal journey and advocacy work provide a compelling and hopeful thread throughout the documentary. Williams complements this with a broader look at the efforts to install a suicide prevention net on the bridge, showcasing the tireless work of activists and the heart-wrenching stories of families affected by these losses."

    - Facebook User

  • “The Net" is more than just a documentary; it’s a call to action and a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. The film doesn't shy away from the harsh realities but instead uses them to fuel a message of hope and change. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and the impact of collective efforts in saving lives."

    - Instagram User

  • "Overall, "The Net" is a deeply moving and impactful film that will leave a lasting impression on its viewers. It’s a must-watch for anyone interested in mental health, suicide prevention, or simply looking for a documentary that resonates on a profoundly human level"

    - Youtube User

  • "The Net is an extraordinary documentary, that delves into the near-century-long endeavor to end deaths at the Golden Gate Bridge. Through the dedicated efforts of the Bridge Rail Foundation over the past 23 years, the film highlights the relentless commitment to preventing suicides and the proven impact of reducing access to lethal means. Kevin Hines and Zak Williams have created a powerful call to action, urging the world to implement similar life-saving measures on tall buildings, structures, railways, and bridges globally. This film is driving a crucial movement to save lives and make a lasting difference."

Greg Dicharry - filmmaker and mental health advocate

  • "For nearly 90 years, the Golden Gate Bridge implemented half measures to prevent suicides. In "The Net," Kevin Hines chronicles the crucial journey of finally going all the way in taking comprehensive action and the significant impact the barrier is already having. This documentary challenges our society's fatalistic belief that suicides are inevitable. No suicide is fated; none are pre-destined. Until someone takes a final lethal act, there is still hope, even up to the very last moment."
